God’s 3 Little Words: WISDOM, UNDERSTANDING & KNOWLEDGE

Updated: Mar 1, 2023

When I was first rediscovering the creation, guided by the Holy Spirit, one of the things I noticed is that He speaks repeatedly about it using the SAME words in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

In Proverbs 3:19-20 (NKJV), He speaks some creation “truth” to us with three special words:

The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens; 20 By His knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew.

As you probably already heard, these words are: wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. I will never forget the week I found this verse, when the Holy Spirit was teaching me other verses about creation in the Bible, speaking about the wisdom of it (1 Corinthians 2), and our need to have understanding (Proverbs 9:10), and to have knowledge (Job 38), etc. That same week, another Bible teacher in our church was teaching about the creative anointing upon the men who were chosen to make the articles for the building of the old covenant tabernacle (Exodus 31 and 36). God told Moses that they were “filled with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, 5 in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.” (Exodus 31:3-5)

Not only did GOD possess these same three attributes WHEN HE CREATED OUR WORLD, according to Proverbs 3:19-20, but He also anointed HIS VESSELS CHOSEN TO DO HIS WORK for Him in building a tabernacle, where He would commune with His people. He is the Creator, and He is the SOURCE of the anointing that is holy. Ever since that time, I have continued to notice when these words are grouped together in a passage of Scripture. One of those passages came up this week. It’s so beautiful, and it also speaks to us about His “words” and “truth,” a continuation of what He has been speaking to me in my latest posts. Proverbs 22:17-21 (NKJV) says:

Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart to my knowledge; 18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Let them all be fixed upon your lips, 19 So that your trust may be in the LORD; I have instructed you today, even you. 20 Have I not written to you excellent things Of counsels and knowledge, 21 That I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth That you may answer words of truth To those who send to you?

Through the writer of this proverb, we are instructed to “incline” our ear and to “hear the words of the wise…” The Strong’s Hebrew word for “incline” is: SH5186 Verb “natah” (naw-taw’)=to stretch out, spread out, extend, incline, bend. He encourages us to really stretch out and bend our ear toward Him and hear “words” of "wisdom." Then He says to “apply” our heart to “knowledge.” These are pleasant to keep within us and we “let them all be fixed upon” our “lips, So that” our “trust may be in the LORD…” This is very KEY. As I have been taught to repeatedly “incline” my ear and to “apply my heart” and “fix” my lips upon the “words” about creation, I have begun to SEE things differently in His world where I live. I have had “understanding,” which comes directly from my Creator God. The word for “fix” in verse 18 is: SH3559 Verb “kun” (koon)=to be firm, and “apply” in verse 18 is: SH7896 Verb “shith” (sheeth)=to put, set. This brings me to some of the first “Creation Clues” that I would like to share.

One of the first things that my eyes were opened to about God’s world, is that the “earth” was built upon a “foundation” with a “cornerstone” (Job 38:4-6; Isaiah 48:13; 51:13,16), and it is “set” upon “pillars” (1 Samuel 2:8; Psalm 75:3), “fixed” and “it is not moved” (Psalm 24:1-2; 93:1; 104:5)! I couldn’t believe it...but I knew it was true, because God said it! I was stunned. It was really amazing to me, when I FINALLY got it. (The Lord had tried for many years to show me.) At first, it made me angry that I had been so blinded by my education and had not “heard” His “words” in the Bible about His world for most of my life. Then I was blessed and relieved. It made sense, why almost everything taught in the education “system” is not filled with “life.” It made sense to me why the Holy Spirit had tried repeatedly throughout my life to completely wean me from “media” in order to spend time in the Word with Him. It brought "life" to me -- plain and simple as that.

By the way, the Psalm 24:2 and 93:1 references about the “earth” use the same word for “fixed” as in Proverbs 22:18, meaning “to be firm,” and “apply” in that verse is the same “word” used for “set,” speaking about “pillars” of the earth in 1 Samuel 2:8. As I meditate upon those verses about the earth and compare that to my “lips” being “firm,” and applying my heart to “knowledge,” it means that we hold fast and anchor our lives on His “words” of “wisdom,” as He goes on to say in verse 19, “So that” our “trust may be in the LORD…” When we speak His “words” of “wisdom” about His creation, it holds us “firm” and shows that our “trust” IS “in the LORD”! My heart is “set” upon “knowledge” which comes from Him, just like the earth is “set” upon “pillars” and “fixed” upon a “foundation.”

Bringing it back to Proverbs 3:19, if we “understand” that “The Lord by wisdom founded the earth,” then we must hear that IT IS “wisdom” to “know” that THERE IS a “foundation.” He says so OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER throughout the texts of the Bible. (If you want more Scriptures, go to my "Book” page, and check out “CREATION STRUCTURE CLUES,” for fun!) Many, many of these passages of Scripture are DIRECT QUOTATIONS from our precious Lord and Creator God! I think that speaks for itself.

There’ so much more in Proverbs 22, but I feel I need to wrap it up for today. Bottom line, His “words” are “wisdom” for us, and we put our “trust” in Him, setting our heart upon His "knowledge." We can trust our Lord to be truthful with us. He knows, because He was there when He made everything! He would not be so unloving to tell us over and over again that the earth has a “foundation” and that it is “fixed” and “not moved” (among many other characteristics), and then expect us to believe that it is a “sphere” flying through “space.” It might seem shocking, but if the Holy Spirit has led you to this blog, then it is to hear “truth.” My prayer is that you will be anointed by the “Spirit of God” to hear His “words” about His world, and then, as you HEAR, and BELIEVE, firmly fixed in your heart, so SPEAK with your LIPS (2 Corinthians 4:13)! Be blessed of the Lord until next time...
