Pure Words Hit The Mark
Updated: Mar 1, 2023
God’s Words Are Pure...He does not speak idly, and He is CONSISTENT with Himself throughout His testimony in the Word. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit all show us how they communicate, and we can learn some valuable things and benefit from them, if applied to our own relationships with God and with others on the earth.
Attentiveness, faithfulness and truthfulness in communication is very important to God, and is very important to me. To be heard and believed is a command from Him, if we are to grow in relationship with Him (John 12:44,47; Hebrews 11:6), and it is also a real need for every human being. We get this need from God. Communication originated with Him. In Genesis 1:27, it says that we as “mankind” are made in His “image.” The three Persons of the Godhead are “One” and are in perfect unity (Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29), and they demonstrate the beautiful relationship they have with each other through communication (John 14-17). That is not all. They also include us in their desire for relationship with them. God made us for relationship and intimacy. Those of us who have chosen to come to the Father through Jesus as our Lord and Savior, ARE the “righteousness of God” in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). It says in Psalm 34:15 that “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry.” What a powerful promise and what a TREASURE the Word of God is for us! I am so glad that I can count on hearing Him, and being heard myself. His attention is upon us as His children. We can COUNT ON HIS WORDS TO BE TRUE, and STAND UPON THEM BY FAITH, claiming His promises for everything in our lives and for others as well.
We have been learning about the speech of our God. It is clear that He is our example, but as we all know, not everyone speaks like our Lord. Listen to what Psalm 12 (NKJV) says about the words of God compared to the words of others. Take note especially of verses five and six:
Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases! For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. 2 They speak idly everyone with his neighbor; With flattering lips and a double heart they speak. 3 May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, And the tongue that speaks proud things, 4 Who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; Who is lord over us?” 5 “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the Lord; “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” 6 The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of the earth, Purified seven times. 7 You shall keep them, O Lord, You shall preserve them from this generation forever. 8 The wicked prowl on every side, When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.
My favorite part is, “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the Lord; “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” God has done this for me personally, when I was attacked by others who tried to kill me for loving God and obeying His Word in my family. God allows persecution, for His purposes, but when He says, “Now I will arise,” watch out! He is a STRONG DEFENDER of the fatherless and the poor! I LOVE verse six, which declares that “The words of the Lord are pure words…” Even though others may be faithless, proud, flattering, double-hearted, speaking idle, oppressive things, OUR GOD SPEAKS WITH PURITY to us! He is just the opposite! Let’s hear some more “pure” words from Jesus in John 12:26,42-50 (NKJV), so that we can learn from Him and “follow” Him:
”If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor…"... 42 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. 44 Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. 46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. 47 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. 48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. 49 For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. 50 And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”
The Holy Spirit, as the third Person of the Godhead, does not even speak on His own. John tells us Jesus’ words about the Holy Spirit in John 16:13-15 (NKJV):
"However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you..."
I love how honoring the Godhead is with One another, and how clear and specific in description about the characteristics of each Person, though all being “One." The “Creation Clues” word which came to me this week was “lightning,” as I was working on my site and adding to the “Star & Firmament Truth” page about “lightning” and “sprites” which show the “firmament” above the lightning storms. I have been meditating on all these verses about God’s “words” for weeks, and this week God spoke Job 37:3 to my mind, which says in the NASB, “He sends it forth under the whole heaven His lightning to the ends of the earth.”
Later that day, I also came across Job 36:32 (NASB) declaring, “He covers His hands with the lightning, And commands it to strike the target..” When I was thinking about the purity of His words and how He and His Son and the Holy Spirit are always in AGREEMENT and that they CONSISTENTLY speak the same things throughout the pages of Scripture, I was reminded that “lightning” purifies and cleanses the atmosphere. It seems that Holy Spirit is showing me that just as He created “lightning” for His world for His purposes, His “words” which are “pure” (Psalm 12:6), ALWAYS “strike the target” or “strike the mark” (NASB1977). There is another verse which comes to mind about this. God tells us about His words which proceed from His mouth in Isaiah 55:10-11 (NASB):
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it produce and sprout, And providing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; 11 So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it…”
This passage speaks about “the rain and the snow” which water the earth before returning to heaven as a simile compared to God’s words. In a way, it’s the same as with “lightning,” because they hit their intended “target” or “mark” to water the earth, etc. Everything God does is intentional and not accidental or haphazard. His words are direct. Hebrews 4:12 (NASB) tells us, “For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” God said that He “sent” His “word” (vs. 11). He says in the same verse, “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire And without succeeding…”
The One who made us is a LOVING GOD who has a LOVING PLAN for ALL OF HIS CREATION! His character stands alone, and He is CONSISTENT with Himself and with His intentions. The Word that we receive in the texts of His Bible will ACCOMPLISH and SUCCEED in the purpose for which it was SENT! The “Creator” of “lightning” hits HIS TARGETS! I am one of His intended “targets,” and so are you! We can receive His “pure” words and be transformed by receiving them with soft and willing hearts, just like the rain and snow water the earth, cause the seed to reproduce and sprout, providing “bread to the eater…” (vs. 10). May we all receive His words, feasting upon them every day, being changed from the inside out! We live to glorify Him by believing His words and acting on them as He showed us, following the Father and speaking "His command” of “everlasting life" (John 12:50). Then we will live with Him in the Father's heavenly kingdom, enjoying them and our family forever! Until then, let's do our best to see where He is working, and take as many "treasures" with us to heaven as we can...grace and peace to your spirit in Jesus' name!
